At the start of 2018 the band entered Preston contest and the band was placed 8th out of 13 bands which was good considering we only had the area set test piece “Napoleon on the Alp” out for three weeks prior the contest.
Northwest areas 2018
The band performed brilliantly from the dreaded number one spot, the performance set the marker for the rest of the bands, until the comfort break Littleborough band were on their way to the National Finals again but unfortunately there was one great performance at the end of the day from Eccleston Brass which saw them take first prize. Out of 16 bands Littleborough were placed 4th just missing out on the top three.
Whit Friday 2018
After a very wet and windy start to the evening the weather did dry up and the band played consistently all night. The band played “The Contestor” march and managed to perform in seven different Saddleworth villages and came away with five prizes.
Hebdenbridge March Contest
The band played “The Contestor” march and was unlucky not to be in the prizes for the 3rd section again. On the positive side Littleborough Band was placed above two higher ranked bands one from the 1st section and one from the 2nd section.
At the end of October the band took part in the Rochdale Brass Band Contest, despite a few minor mishap’s the band played really well playing Phillip Sparke’s “Music for a Festival”.
Happy New Year 2019
The band had a week to work on the Overture Rule Britannia for the Butlins Mineworkers Contest on Saturday 12th January in Sunny Skegness. The band performed well and were unlucky not to have been placed higher, the band was placed 8th out of 13 bands. The band had an amazing time socialising into the early hours of Sunday morning and even the conductor Ady was seen dancing in “Jak’s night Club” at 3:20am. A brilliant and enjoyable weekend.
